NUTELLA BANANA TURON

If you grew up in a Filipino household (or have Filipino friends) you know two things: you never leave that house hungry and turon was likely on the dessert menu. That was the case in our house. Traditional turon is plantain banana coated in sugar, wrapped and fried in oil. It’s the best thing ever. My friend Adi Baybay and I wanted to try our own version knowing full well our families, not to mention our Moms and Titas (aunts), would come at us for these recipe modifications. Well we gave it shot and I cannot lie; it was bomb.

INGREDIENTS:

Macadamia Nut Sauce:

- 8 t0 10 roasted macadamia nuts

- 1 tbl lemon juice

- 2 tsp vanilla extract

- 1/2 can coconut cream

Blend all ingredients until smooth.

Turon (for 10 servings):

- 10 wonton wrappers (8” square)

- 3 ripe bananas

- 4 tbl Nutella

- 3 tbl butter or ghee

- 1/2 cup avocado oil

DIRECTIONS:

- Cut bananas in lengthwise and in half.

- Place one slice of banana at the end of the wonton wrapper.

- Spread Nutella across the banana slice.

- Wet your finger with water and run it along all sides of the wonton wrapper.

- Fold outer edges in and roll the rest of the way to fully wrap the banana slice.

- Heat a frying pan on medium high until hot and pour in avocado oil and butter.

- Place turon in the pan seam side down and cook for 3 mins until golden brown.

- Flip turon and cook for another 2-3 mins.

- Place finished turon on a paper towel or wire rack to cool.

- Plate with a scoop of ice cream and fresh berries.
