THE BIG (BLUE) BATHROOM

IMG_7168.JPG

We’ve lived in our house for almost 5 years and when we first moved in, we took the house down to the studs. We renovated every space - except the bathrooms. I was 7 months pregnant when we closed and, frankly, we didn’t have money in the budget to add 2 full bathrooms plus 1 half bathroom to our scale of work. When we decided earlier this year to stay in this house for a little while longer, we knew it was time make a change.

Don’t get me wrong - our bathrooms were in good shape before, but they needed an update and we wanted a pop of colour in each room. Our biggest bathroom also happens to be where we spend most of our time. It’s where we get our kids ready for school, where we battle brushing teeth and potty training and also where we end our day with them. It turned into a room we wanted to spend as little time in as possible…until now.

Call us crazy but we knew from day one we were NOT going to replace any of the tile. This was a lipstick renovation through and through. I know what you’re asking: If you’re not ripping out the tub, tile and floor, how will you achieve the look you’re going for? Answer: PAINT. That’s right. We painted. All of it.

We used Rustoleum Tub N Tile for the bathtub and shower tile. 3 coats (and 3 days of good ventilation) later, we had the white bathroom we were striving for. Note: this stuff was very toxic. The mask was very necessary. We used porch paint for the floor and a rich navy to make the vanity pop.

Products used:

Tub N Tile Paint - Rustoleum

Vanity Paint - Benjamin Moore Midnight Blue

Mirror - Pearl Canada Rylee

Light Bar - Vancouver Lighting Kendall

Vanity Hardware - Richelieu Greenwich Collection
